Something is amiss at Point Loma Nazarene University.

The school is offering spiritual formation retreats using a book authored by Tony Jones, The Sacred Way. As a former Catholic, I am well aware that contemplative prayer is rooted in medieval Catholic mysticism. This is detrimental to the faith of students on this campus and those in leadership as "shepherds" need to realize that such are harshly judged by the Lord. The Word of our God shall stand forever. Isaiah 40:8

The university has also invited emergent author/speaker,Brian McClaren,to mandatory/undebated chapel. My son's New Testament 102 textbook was written by Bart Erhman, academic scholar in textual criticism of the Bible and self proclaimed agnostic.

I have notified both the general superintendent of the Nazarene organization of this and also the university president. Pray for students at these universities that they may not be deceived by false doctrines which diminish the authority of God's Word.

I am sick at the direction that the Nazarene church is going. I have been a life-long member(67 yrs). The Bible has not changed one word! Repentence is still needed in order to receive salvation It is not enough to merely decide to be a 'nicer' person without repentence. Don't these "emergent fOLLOWers' care how many souls they will be responsible for leading down a wrong path and possibly lost? Now it's more important not to offend, than to present the true plan of salvation? And now the emergent wants "just a mention" in the Nararene Manual? yes, a few years ago, the gays just wanted to be left alone to live their lives. Now today, they appear to have more rights than the straight, ordinary person. Has everyone forgotten what happpened to Sodom and Gomorrah? Have we forgotten Galations 6:7? Don't be deceived God is not mocked, for whatever man sows, he shall also reap" Rick Warren and Brian McLearen may be riding high right now, but what happened on their judgment day? As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord and only the Lord.

Richard I own the book, and have read your work for myself, I can surely speak for myself and dont need to repeat things that are on the internet. You endorse both centering and contemplative prayer.

There are no non-new age forms of contemplative prayer or centering prayer. Your statement is flawed as is your discernment. Im looking at page 137 right now.For you to state that "Contemplative prayer (also known as "centering prayer") is controversial but does not necessarily border on occultism and Eastern meditation"-lets just stop there you know the rest of the quote.
Your statement is misleading to suggest that there are other forms of centering or contemplative other than new age.
Thats like stating there are Christian forms of the labyrinth or tarot cards.
You cant make something that has pagan roots ie the Desert Fathers borrowing spirituality from eastern religions into something Christian even if the intent may have been a honest search for God.
It is what it is.
Thats like saying yoga is Christian.
I suggest you read Deut 18:9-14
But I know you need to promote and mislead here because your pals Rick Warren and new ager Len Sweet promote these new age forms of prayer.
Sigh- O well
I will pray for the Holy Spirit to open your eyes

> Richard endorses and promotes the new age form of prayer known as contemplative or centering prayer in his book about Rock Warren “Rick Warren and the Purpose That Drives Him” page 137

RA: This is untrue. I do not support New Age anything. I do not support New Age prayer, which is connected to altered states of consciousness and emptying the mind. I suggest you read my work rather than repeat what you hear on the Internet. Thank you.

I too, like Tim Wirth, am very concerned that the Nazarene Church may be seriously exposed to false movements. My own qualifications are the following: I have been a Christian since 1975; my dad was a minister for many years and taught me straight from the Bible; I love God and His Word. That's all.
Other than that, I have no degree or formal theological training. I do read a lot, and I believe that every Christian who has a desire to defend the faith as God has given to us through the scriptures, is qualified to question what may be serious problems, as long as he backs up what he says with scripture. I hope you are not suggesting that to raise questions and expose problems in the church requires a degree in religion or philosophy.

I agree wholeheartedly! I viewed this video over and over trying to make sense of it...because I had done an extensive
amount of research to realize that the Emergent church was clearly promoted within the denominations ranks. And I think people are leaving the denomination to find a place to be fed...and those churches that people are headed to are within the Reformed and Calvinist ranks. Even though the emergent virus has spread everywhere, there are a lot of Reformed and Baptist churches that are guarding their gates and holding onto the truth of Scripture and feeding their sheep with expository preaching. That's where our family found a home after being in the Nazarene denomination for 24 years; we are now being richly fed in a baptist church.
