Jon Middendorf And The M-7 CONFERENCE

Posted by nazarenepsalm113 on September 8, 2008

I could write pages alone on Jon’s comments at the M-7 conference but I want to try to get to the meat of what was really going on here at this conference. I will address other speakers in another post.

The one thing Jon and other would have you think is that Emergent/Emerging is not a denomination, a moving target, something similar to trying to nail jello to a tree.

This couldn’t be further from the truth.

From a herescope article-

Do not be deceived. The “emerging church” movement did not spontaneously erupt. It was a well-funded and well-organized movement from its very inception. It appears to have been fashioned by a handful of corporate business leaders who wished to create a counter-cultural evangelical movement. The intended purpose appears to have been identifying and recruiting potential young leaders for comprehensive indoctrination. One of the chief outcomes has been the further degradation and deconstruction of traditional Christianity.

Jon goes on to say that within the Emergent conversation they question the false division between the sacred and the secular.

Well folks there is no false division between the sacred and the secular.

Scripture is very clear about the division.

1 John 2:15-16 states “15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world— lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.”

Jesus Himself let his apostles know who was prince in this world until He the Prince of Princes returned.

John 14:30 “30 I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me.

Amazing and scary that Jon as a pastor and third generation Nazarene does not seem to grasp very simple basic scripture.

Jon then goes on to promote the Christian calender which has its roots in Catholicism as well as Ash Wed and he keep on mentioning keeping sacred time.

Where do you find that method in scripture?

Among the deception that was put forth by Jon certainly the most disturbing to me was this statement.

“The very last thing you should do if you are interested in beginning something emergent or reaching your culture in a emerging sort of way the very last thing you should do is a worship service. You should do it but you should do it last. I don’t think we did it right, looking back, looking back we should have gone an entire year learning how to do life together practicing corporate spirituality. The very last thing we should have done is do a worship service.

He then suggests doing half as many worship services and getting together to eat and laugh a lot.

My brothers and sisters in the Lord the only one laughing here is our enemy satan.

Jon then goes on to state” we are to look for evidence of the divine and we look and find it in nature, in art, in literature, music and film. So rather than fear the surrounding culture and the surrounding cities which predictably results in a bunker mentality, the emerging culture embraces and expects to find God in it. Because there is no where God isn’t.”end quote

My brothers and sisters in Christ this is pantheism and this is not of God  scripture states in 1 John 2:15 “Love not the world, nether the things that are in the world. If any man loves the world the love of the Father is not in him.

Jesus Himself stated

John 8:23 “You are from below,” He told them, “I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.”

John 15:9 “If you were of the world, the world would love [you as] its own. However, because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of it, the world hates you.”

John 18:36 “My kingdom is not of this world,” said Jesus. “If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I wouldn’t be handed over to the Jews. As it is, My kingdom does not have its origin here.”

These are all very simple basic principles of scripture that some young people and even new Christians seem to grasp. Its scary that a pastor of a church chooses to not embrace this truth of scripture.

In conclusion Jon goes on to state “Do you think that words can completely contain God? God is not contained in our words about Him.” end quote

While it may be true that our own words cannot contain God.

God is however contained through the words written about Him through the Holy Spirit in scripture.

And that is what people like Jon Middendorf and those in the Emergent church are trying to break down.

Scripture and the foundations of Christianity through Gods Holy Word in the Bible.

Its the same old lie first stated by our enemy satan in the Garden of Eden ” Gen 3:1 has God said??????

Jon is also endorsing and encouraging a return to not ancient Christian ritual but ancient Catholic ritual.

More to come
