Some of the proponents and endorsers of the Emergent Church and New Age Spirituality

Posted by nazarenepsalm113 on September 8, 2008

This is not going to be a once said and done list because of the great falling away we are seeing in the Body of Christ but one big name on the list of those helping to give the Emergent church and new age spirituality is Rick Warren.

In my opinion one of the most evil things that Warren does is that he (as well as the rest of the Emergent church) targets our youth while showing no respect for the elders in our churches.

Here is a Rick Warren quote.

“Be willing to let people leave the church. And I told you earlier the fact that people are gonna leave the church no matter what you do. But when you define the vision, you’re choosing who leaves. You say, “But Rick, yes, they’re the pillars of the church.” Now, you know what pillars are. Pillars are people who hold things up … And in your church, you may have to have some blessed subtractions before you have any real additions.”

Here is another Rick Warren quote.  ”

“But first, ponder Rick Warren’s tone and suggestion in the recent article, “What to do when your church hits a plateau?” Apparently, he was asked how to handle obstacles to change. In his answer, he points to the new way of thinking and acting:

“…some people are going to have to die or leave. Moses had to wander around the desert for 40 years while God killed off a million people before he let them go into the Promised Land. That may be brutally blunt, but it’s true. There may be people in your church who love God sincerely, but who will never, ever change…. [Does Pastor Warren believe that he, as if like God, can simply dispose of people who question his clever marketing strategies?]

“People ask, ‘Is it easier to start new churches, or is it easier to take existing churches and turn them around?’ My answer is this: ‘It’s always easier to have babies than to raise the dead.’…

“…pray for an extra amount of patience. People change very slowly. They are resistant to change because they recognize that life as they’ve known it will cease to exist….

“…move with the movers…. Find out who the legitimizers are; the ones who are willing to go for change…. Build your vision in them.”[14

here is a fine article by Berit Kjos that address all this
How sad that Rick encourages getting rid of our dear old saints who have been faithful to the Body of Christ for many more years than Rick has been unfaithful. But this is part of what is bringing together the one world religion that will be headed up by the antichrist.
Here is a group of article that is solid biblically based well researched information on Rick Warren and his connections to the Emergent church and coming new spirituality.
Another rather minor player but loud voice in all this is sometime author and unofficial spokesman for Rick Warren Richard Abanes.
Richard Abanes is know for being Warrens pit bull around the internet and tends to pop up in all discussions about everything Warren.
Richard even though he has spoken out against the new age speaks out of both sides of his mouth as Richard endorses and promotes the new age form of prayer known as contemplative or centering prayer in his book about Rock Warren “Rick Warren and the Purpose That Drives Him” page 137
Another player in all this is new ager Leonard Sweet surprising enough this wolf in sheeps clothing is even promoted and endorsed on the official Church of the Nazarene website.
You cannot read Leonards Sweets ebook “Quantum Spirituality” and come away with even remotely thinking that Leonard is a Christian. The bible states we will know them by their fruits.
Here is some more information on Leonard Sweet-
Another major player in this who is also promoted by the Nazarene leadership is Brian Mclaren. There is a ton of information of this false teacher as well here.
In a recent interview, emerging church leader Brian McLaren calls the doctrine of hell “false advertising for God” and berates the body of Christ and the doctrine of the Cross as he has often done before.

This interview shows a clear picture of the spirituality that has swiftly moved into churches across North America and around the world and rejects Jesus Christ’s substitutionary sacrifice on the Cross.

Thank you so much for posting this! God bless and strengthen you!

  2. > Richard endorses and promotes the new age form of prayer known as contemplative or centering prayer in his book about Rock Warren “Rick Warren and the Purpose That Drives Him” page 137

RA: This is untrue. I do not support New Age anything. I do not support New Age prayer, which is connected to altered states of consciousness and emptying the mind. I suggest you read my work rather than repeat what you hear on the Internet. Thank you.

Richard I own the book, and have read your work for myself, I can surely speak for myself and dont need to repeat things that are on the internet. You endorse both centering and contemplative prayer.

There are no non-new age forms of contemplative prayer or centering prayer. Your statement is flawed as is your discernment. Im looking at page 137 right now.For you to state that “Contemplative prayer (also known as “centering prayer”) is controversial but does not necessarily border on occultism and Eastern meditation”-lets just stop there you know the rest of the quote.
Your statement is misleading to suggest that there are other forms of centering or contemplative other than new age.
Thats like stating there are Christian forms of the labyrinth or tarot cards.
You cant make something that has pagan roots ie the Desert Fathers borrowing spirituality from eastern religions into something Christian even if the intent may have been a honest search for God.
    It is what it is.
Thats like saying yoga is Christian.
I suggest you read Deut 18:9-14
But I know you need to promote and mislead here because your pals Rick Warren and new ager Len Sweet promote these new age forms of prayer.
    Sigh- O well
I will pray for the Holy Spirit to open your eyes
